Item Incwadi yezibhalo ezingcwele(University of Fort Hare, 1864) University of Fort HareThe Wesleyan, Glasgow and Berlin Mission Societies collaborated in publishing a bible in 1846. In 1857 to 1859 the first complete bible translated into isiXhosa was in Mount Coke and only appeared in 1864. The translation was done by John White Appleyard, William Shaw, William Boyce and others. John White Appleyard was born in England in 1814 and was the son of Reverend John Appleyard.Item Notes on Kaffir English_ Dictionary(University of Fort Hare, 1830) John BennieJohn Bennie was a linguist so after learning Dutch, his wife's language he went and learnt isiXhosa. In 1824 he announced to his Presbytery He was also involved in translating and transcribing the o that he will compile a list of vocabulary and grammar of the Xhosa language. This dictionary was compiled by him according to his understanding of the Xhosa language. He was a Presbyterian Minister, Missionary and early Xhosa Linguist. Also, one of the finding fathers of Lovedale Mission Station established in Ngqika. This bible was put into the hands of John Bennie at his designation to the work of a missionary to the heathen by the Glasgow Mission Society and a memorial of that transaction containing all the instructions, warning invitation, grace holding consolation of strength to the heathen.Item Ashton William's Notes(University of Fort Hare, 1843) University of Fort HareAshton Williams was born on the 13th of July 1817 in England and passed on the 29th of March 1897 in the Northern Cape, South Africa. He was admitted as a student at Lovedale college on the 8th of September1838. He was later ordained on the 23rd of June 1842. These are documented notes of how he lived his life in the missionary.Item Caffre War(University of Fort Hare, 1835)The Caffre War also known as Cape Frontier Wars between the Cape colonists and the Xhosa Agricultural and Pastoral people of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. The members were listed for every meeting held and detailed accounts of all the income and expenditure in a month within the committee.Item The Kaffir Wars and British Settlers in South Africa(University of Fort Hare, 1865)The kaffir wars occurred between the years 1779 until 1879. Only 9 wars were counted during this period. He wrote letters about the opening of new churches or places of worship as he called them. He preached and uplifted the gospel to heathen through his writings and in churches.Item African Banking Corporation(University of Fort Hare, 1923)A compilation of letters that were stamped at the South African Native College and signed by the Senior Clerk of assembly, during the year of 1923. J. Lennox was the Senior Clerk that year but years before that he was a Concession Registrar.
