    Scotland Illustrated
    (University of Fort Hare, 1863)
In no other country does nature exhibit herself in more various forms of beauty and sublimity than in the North of England and the Highlands of Scotland. This is acknowledged by all who have studied their character and become familiar with the feelings it inspires, who have compared the effects produced on their minds by our own mountainous regions with what they have experienced among the scenery of the Alps.

Simplified techniques for assessing veld condition for livestock production in the Ciskei region.
(University of Fort Hare, 1995) Beckerling, A. C. et al.
Veld condition refers to the condition of vegetation in relation to specific functional characteristics, typically forage production and resistance to soil erosion (Trollope, Trollope, and Bosch 1991). The purpose of assessing veld condition is to determine the current condition of the vegetation and to use this information to formulate veld management practices such as stocking rates, grazing and browsing management, rotational resting, and veld burning.

Report on the Argroforestry Project 1981-1987.
    (University of Fort Hare, 1981) de Villiers, J. G. H. and Ward, H. K.
This report reviews the progress, challenges, and accomplishments of the afforestation project over the past seven years since its commencement. The project is one of the several programmes conducted by the Agricultural and Rural Development Research Institute (ARDRI) of the University of Fort Hare to help meet some of the technical needs of small farmers. The concept of agroforestry includes trees as an integral part of farming systems, contributing directly to the production of food and industrial crops, and indirectly improving the microclimate by providing shade and wind breaks for adjacent crops, as well as fodder for animals. By virtue of their deep roots, trees are more drought-resistant than other plants; they help recycle nutrients and enhance soil stability and structure. Leguminous trees also fix nitrogen.

Information sources on Agricultural and Rural Development in Ciskei and adjacent areas.
(University of Fort Hare, 1990-10) Agricultural and Rural Development Institute
This directory lists individuals and organisations involved in agriculture and rural development in Ciskei and the Border areas. Its purpose is to provide a ready source of this information- especially to those who, for any reason, are unaware of the potential assistance that is available to them. Part one of the directory lists individuals according to their subject areas. The information was obtained by distributing questionnaires to relevant institutions and organizations to identify the various fields and specialties of their staff. The subject reflects the choice of each respondent. Part two contains information relating to the Ciskei Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, in the form of an organogram and telephone listing. Part three lists those private and state organisations active in agriculture and rural development operating in Ciskei and adjacent areas.

The grazing and browsing capacity of the Buffalo River Basin.
    (University of Fort Hare, 1982-11) Willis, M. J. and Trollope, W. S. W.
The object of this study was to estimate the maximum and mean current grazing and browsing of the veld in the Buffalo River Basin of Ciskei. The importance of such a study is reflected in the realization that overstocking is one of the most significant problems limiting veld rehabilitation and the development of an economically viable livestock industry in Ciskei (Brown, Bishop, and Wilke, 1978; Trollope and Coetzee, 1978). The current grazing and browsing capacities were defined as the grazing and browsing capacities, respectively, of the vegetation in its current state.
