Abstract

John Bennie was a linguist so after learning Dutch, his wife's language he went and learnt isiXhosa. In 1824 he announced to his Presbytery He was also involved in translating and transcribing the o that he will compile a list of vocabulary and grammar of the Xhosa language. This dictionary was compiled by him according to his understanding of the Xhosa language. He was also involved in translating and transcribing the oral narrative of isiXhosa.
