The host family does not flinch from any sacrifice so as to empower him educationally and at the same time pinning its hopes on this little mushrooming boy. After becoming a fully-fledged engineer overseas, the family expects him to return home - his motherland, South Africa, to perform a sacrificial function by "liberating'' his family i.e. community from the bondage of apartheid. This "messianic hope", however, eventually ends in an anti-climax of despair and disillusionment. The Mosaic saviour betrays his own people, despite all the individual and concerted efforts to get him educated, by not even endeavouring once to fulfil the expected Mosaic task, but by· leaving his "roots" - the South African soil - once and for all for greener pastures overseas.Item A Study to Identify and Evaluate the Impact of the Keiskammahoek Farmer Support Programme on Farmers Development(University of Fort Hare, 1997) Doni, Thozama MelodyThe conditions prevailing in the developing rural areas of South Africa are a cause for concern. This is evident when the optimal utilization of the agricultural land is considered. Most of these areas fall under the jurisdiction of the former self governing states and independent homelands. In comparison to the commercial white farming sector, agriculture in the rural areas can be regarded as inefficient and unproductive. The developing rural areas of South Africa occupy- an area of about 16.72 million ha of which approximately 76 percent receives a rainfall greater than 500mm per annum (Nicholson and Bembridge, 1991). These areas can therefore be regarded as having good potential for semi-intensive agriculture.Item A Critical Appraisal of P.T.
