The Howard Pim Library comprises of an Africana collection that was named after John Howard Pim (1863-1934). Mr Pim was a member of the governing council of the University of College of Fort Hare in the years 1933 and 1934 to which he bequeathed part of his personal library.

    A John Bennie manuscript as edited by D. Williams. The manuscript consists of twenty-nine sheets of writing paper. This book has been transcribed as John Bennie wrote it, the only additions being words and letters which have been obliterated and have been omitted by John Bennie.

    Bible Selection/Notes in Xhosa

    John Bennie was a linguist. So, after learning Dutch his wife's language, he went on and learnt IsiXhosa. In 1824 he announced to his Presbytery that he will compile a list of vocabulary and grammar of the Xhosa language. This dictionary was compiled by him according to his understanding of the Xhosa language . He was involved in translating and transcribing the old narratives of IsiXhosa.

    John Bennie was a Presbyterian minister missionary and an early Xhosa linguist. In 1824 he announced to his Presbytery that he will compile content related to IsiXhosa. As a result, he was involved in translating and transcribing the oral narrative of a Xhosa.
