dc.description.abstractThis study seeks to shed light on the use of strategic plan as a performance management tool of primary school educators in the Eastern Cape Province's Department of Education. An extensive literature study on strategic planning as done in the study shows that strategic planning is important in any educational institution with a view to assisting it establish and monitor its goals. Without any attainable goals in place, the organisation has little idea of what it is supposed to do or how to achieve its vision. The goal of the researcher in this study is to establish the level of understanding and commitment of schools and the Department to the strategic planningprocess as well as identifying systemic barriers to it and finally to make recommendations that aim to enhance the process in order to improve performance in schools.en_ZA
