dc.description.abstractIn South Africa vast efforts and considerable resources continue to be spent on providing in service training for teachers to stimulate professional development and improve classroom practice. The impact of these professional development programmes on long term practice is uncertain. But there seems to be evidence that programmes based on a growth or constructivist model are more effective.
