Abstract
This final report was prepared by the Fort Hare Institute of Social and Economic Research at the University of Fort Hare as part of the Government of the Eastern Cape's Provincial Growth and Development Plan initiative. The study examines agricultural development, rural livelihoods, and programme priorities within the Eastern Cape Province. It provides an assessment of the agricultural sector's contribution to rural livelihoods, identifies key challenges affecting rural communities, and proposes strategic priorities for sustainable rural development and economic growth. The report contributes to policy formulation and planning aimed at poverty reduction, agricultural development, employment creation, and improved livelihoods in the Eastern Cape.
