dc.description.abstractThe Wesleyan, Glasgow and Berlin Mission Societies collaborated in publishing a bible in 1846. In 1857 to 1859 the first complete bible translated into isiXhosa was in Mount Coke and only appeared in 1864. The translation was done by John White Appleyard, William Shaw, William Boyce and others. John White Appleyard was born in England in 1814 and was the son of Reverend John Appleyard.
