This historical atlas was compiled by Eric A. Walker, Professor of History at the University of Cape Town, to illustrate the history of South Africa south of the Zambezi River. The atlas includes maps depicting the development of the Cape Colony, the Great Trek, the Orange Free State, Natal, Basutoland, the South African Republic, political divisions within southern Africa, economic development, European expansion, transportation networks, population distribution, and the relationship between Africa and the East Indies from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries. The work provides a valuable cartographic record of South African and regional history, geography, colonisation, settlement patterns, and economic development.
