Item An investigation into the reasons behind the patterns of code switching in radio broadcasting: A case study of Muuga FM radio station in Kenya.(University of Fort Hare, 2015-01) Njeru, Pamela KagendoThis research attempts to identify the patterns of language behaviour in media discourse through the analysis of code switching occurrences in everyday conversational interactions. The goal of this study is to analyse code choices and the motivation behind such patterns, in order to see whether there are differences among the cases studied, and most of all, what is causing these differences in linguistic behaviour to occur. The study utilised the qualitative approach, with the case study design. Data used in analysis were collected and recorded during informal conversations by presenters and respondents in aired Muuga FM programmes.Item "Evaluating Reading Strategy Instruction (RSI) on Level 2 FET English Second Language (ESL) learners in the Eastern Cape, Mtata District"(University of Fort Hare, 2016-03-22) Mpu, N.YMany students in Eastern Cape Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges of Education have problems comprehending Level 2 reading materials and thus struggle academically because English is the medium of instruction. To some extent, methods of teaching second language reading contribute to students' reading failure. The purpose of this study was to determine what reading strategies Level 2 ESL learners use; what reading strategies should be taught; what the effect of an implemented reading strategies programme is on their reading comprehension; and what the effect of an implemented reading strategy programme is on their reading comprehension. Two intact cohorts of Level 2 students were randomly assigned to a control and intervention group.
