(University of Fort Hare, 2010) Williams, Lunga Wiseman
The study is aimed at evaluating the performance management system on the quality of teaching and learning in selected high schools. The development of a country is dependent upon the quality of education that is provided by the government to its people. By doing the project, the researcher is hoping to achieve the following objectives: 􀀇 To evaluate if the performance management system has been able to find out the strengths and weaknesses on the quality of teaching and learning. 􀀇 To assess whether the system has provided the support and opportunities for development of educators, and 􀀇 To evaluate the impact of the performance management system on the quality of teaching and learning. The background for the study was undertaken to provide a foundation for the proper researcher that would follow. The research design used both the quantitative method as well as the qualitative method. In the quantitative approach the questionnaires were developed and distributed to fifty educators from five high schools. In the qualitative approach the interviews were conducted with the circuit manager, the school management team members and the school governing body members.
