    Relative Deprivation and Relative Gratification in Low and High Status Groups

    The present paper reports two experiments which aimed to firstly, replicate Guimond and Dambrun's (2002) findings that both relative deprivation and relative gratification increases prejudice (Experiments 1 and 2). Secondly, we aimed to test the assumption based on Social Identity Theory (Tajfel & Turner, 1979) that prejudice towards a target group would be greater than prejudice towards the more generalised group of immigrants (Experiments 1 and 2). Since Guimond and Dambrun's (2002) experiments were conducted with low status groups, the third and final aim of the present study was to determine whether Guimond and Dambrun's (2002) findings on relative deprivation and relative gratification are also applicable to high status groups (Experiment 2).
