In our October issue we made an earnest appeal to the Laymen's Missionary Movement to give practical assistance in starting suitable industries foe natives in congested districts. In this connection, it is of interest to note that there was associated with the Basel Mission on the Gold Coast a commercial undertaking, which, through the remarkable development of the cocoa industry referred to more than once in these pages, had become a very prosperous concern, paying out of its profits to the Basel Missionary Society a sum amounting in recent years to more than 20,000 euros a year. To carry on this business. "The Commonwealth Trust Ltd.," has been formed in London, and the profits over five per cent are to be handed to the various bodies in the colony carrying on philanthropic and religious work for the benefits of the natives.
