| dc.description.abstract | Bio-ethanol is by far the most widely used bio-fuel for transportation worldwide. Production of bio-ethanol from biomass is one way to reduce both consumption of crude oil and environmental pollution. There are mainly two processes involved in the conversion of lignocellulosic materials to ethanol production: hydrolysis of cellulose in the lignocellulosic biomass to produce reducing sugars and fermentation of the sugars to ethanol. However, pretreatment is an essential step before the hydrolysis of biomass and subsequent production of bio-ethanol. The current study was focused on four different chemical methods for the pretreatment of Kikuyu grass using mild temperatures. The temperature used was 100°C for various periods compared. | |
