dc.description.abstract | According to the South African Press Association, on Monday 1st December, the Durban City Council received a deputation for the first public hearing in twenty years. The deputation appeared to tell of the deep anxiety felt by almost forty church, cultural and welfare organisations in Durban which were threatened with possible banning under "church clause of the Native Laws Amendment Act". Mr A. Goldberg, a former Member of Parliament, speaking on behalf of the Council for the Defence of Freedom of Association, said that in many instances the occurence of the local authority was required before the Minister could sign the death warrant of the institutions concerned. | |
