| dc.description.abstract | Cancer was one of the most common and dreaded diseases of the 20th century. Today, the disease is still spreading with increasing incidence. Over 10 million new cases of cancer (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer) were reported in the year 2000 alone. A greater emphasis has recently been placed on research for complementary and alternative medicine that deals with cancer management. Several studies have been conducted on herbs under a multitude of ethnobotanical grounds. The use of medicinal plants for the treatment of cancer has become a common practice especially in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. | |
