    The relationship between class size and learner academic achievement in Grade 12 classes: a comparison between urban and rural schools in the King William's Town education district

    This project addresses the relationship of class size and learner academic achievement in Grade 12 classes. In addition, it makes a comparison of learner academic achievement between urban and rural schools in King Williams Town Education District. The research presents findings from a period of five years were class size and learner academic achievement was assessed from 2009 to 2013. The research focus is on the extent that learners from schools that maintained large and small classes differed in academic achievement. The primary goal of this research study was to determine if small classes resulted in improved student achievement compared to those students in larger classes. Moreover, the study sought to determine if the location where the school is located has an impact on the level of academic achievement of a learner. The results of the study indicated a negative relationship between class size and learner academic achievement. The effect of class size on learner academic achievement was weak as compared to the location of the schools. Location of the school was found to have a strong effect on the learners' academic achievement.
