What motivated the researcher to conduct this study is observing a massive increase in the number of female single parents as depicted by divorce, death of spouse and quite a number of unmarried teenage mothers. Due to the above mentioned statement, the challenges confronting single mothers are on the increase. The aim of the study is to identify the challenges that confront female single parents and how these challenges are managed. Moreover, the study seeks to investigate and establish strategies to manage such challenges. The target population for this study are female single parents from the age group of 18 years and above within the Frances Baard district at Kimberley. Four local clinics and one social development centre were used to select participants. The researcher used a quantitative approach and random sampling to collect the data. The researcher selected seven participants from each of the four local clinics as well as in one social development centre thus reaching 20% sample size. The names of the arrivals at the clinic were given numbers and put in a bowl from where selection of the number/name was done. The arrivals that were seen per day amounted to 35 from which 20% (7) was drawn as the sample and this was done as a once off exercise.
